John Koperwas is a software developer and systems architect with a career built on making complex, time-critical software reliable in the field. His software design background runs deep in real-time systems, where determinism, latency and rock-solid reliability are the whole job — experience that spans real-time platforms including QNX, and reaches down to custom prototype hardware: microcontroller work on ESP32 and ESP8266 and bespoke WiFi-monitoring builds, wired to the software that makes sense of them.
That real-time discipline now drives his work in sovereign AI system architecture: local-first AI that runs on hardware the customer controls, grounded in their own documents, honest about what it doesn't know, and able to prove every answer. It's the same instinct — design for the hard constraint first, and the trustworthy behavior falls out of the architecture.
Alongside the software work, John has a long research pedigree in behavioral measurement and sequential analysis. With Professor Thomas L. Sharpe, he co-developed the BEST (Behavioral Evaluation Strategy and Taxonomy) software for real-time observational data collection and sequential analysis — used in research, teacher training, clinical practice and ABA worldwide — and co-authored the definitive methodology text with SAGE Publications.
